37.5x31.5mm Gold Leafed Ammonite Fossil Pendant 1 focal piece
This listing is for a one of a kind Gold Leafed Ammonite Fossil Pendant with Pyrite inclusions measuring 37.5x31.5mm in size. This focal bead exhibits a vitreous luster which is the result of Quartz & Pyrite (iron sulfide) minerals entering the Ammonite's skeleton structure over millions of years to create a fossilized form. The fossilized minerals create pockets of Drusy features within the spiral structure which provide the hues that range from yellow ochre, tannish brown, creamy white, caramel, and brown hues in the septa or the chambers that the ammonite outgrew over the course of its life. The reverse side of this pendant has a thick gold leafing with a 4.5mm jumpring soldered at the top facing sideways.
Ammonite Fossils have stunning sections with stunning details and lovely patterning. The name `ammonite` originates from the Greek Ram-horned god called Ammon. Ammonite were shelled cephalopods that first appeared over 400 million years ago in marine environments and their demise coincided with the extinction event that closed the Cretaceous Period. Imagine owning a natural Ammonite Fossil which has been encased in the Earth's ancient sea for 400 million years.
